I loved this interview with Cynthia Kersey! As you know, Melanie, I’m 150% sold out on the idea of giving as a way to be successful in our businesses. And I’m so inspired by what Cynthia shared about her journey.
As business owners, we are in such a unique position to build awareness for causes and to give back to our communities and the world around us. In fact, I believe it is our responsibility, as leaders, to do so.
And I believe, as Cynthia said, it’s so important to not wait until we have a lot of money to begin giving. It’s important to start now. As you do, you will not only be blessing the lives of others by making an impact for the greater good, but you will build your business and your brand.
Research supports this as well. Cone Communication’s 2010 Cause Evolution Study (The nation’s longest Cause Branding benchmark) shows this:
83% of Americans wish more of the products, services, and retailers they use would support more causes. A large percentage will switch brands to one that supports a cause.
Whether it’s giving money, donating time, or participating developing cause marketing into your business; giving a little, as Cynthia says, gets you a lot.
Find joy within yourself through a giving spirit; make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate; build your brand for good; and help your customers feel great about your business, brand, and the part they too play in making a difference by doing business with you.

I am so inspired by the way Cynthia made the leap to follow her dreams and to make a difference in on the planet. It is interesting for me because I always thought, OK when I have a little excess I will give but it is so easy to get caught up in what you are doing a not think about who and how you can help.
The message that I am taking away is just help were you can, be it a little time helping at a soup kitchen, using your skills at habitat for humanity, donating something that you are no longer using or sharing in your financial abundance. We are all blessed with with gift that have been provided for us it is time for us to share these with the people that are in a place of need. My goal over the next year is to try to out give the universe.
Thank you Melanie and Cynthia.
